Esperanto

Posted in General by Fox on the October 26th, 2005

By the weirdest of coincidences, someone mentioned that people on the internet have been broadcasting an International Language. So as usual, pointed the browser to Google and typed “International Language”. Results returned by the search awkward, since the term “Esperanto” appeared several times. Well turns out that that International language is called Esperanto (I recall seeing this term several times on some sites such as Wikipedia.org – 10 000+ articles in Esperanto), I always though it was talked in some Latino country probably in Southern America – well I obviously was wrong!

Esperanto is a constructed international language spoken by 100 000 to 1.6 million people worldwide. It was initiated by Ludovic Lazarus Zamenhof (born in the Russian Empire in 1859) who wanted to create an international language with a relatively simple grammar but at the same time very rich by the use of suffixes – in order to make new words. The language can be classified as Romanic (Spanish, French, Italian, Romansh…) and best of all it’s easy to learn – considerably easier than other languages.

The language is regulated by the Akademio de Esperanto, based in Germany. Although the language has a flag, la verda stelo, representing it, it’s a language for peace and is not related to a single region, country or ethnic group in the world. Consequently, some international organizations have declared it as the official language.

You can learn the language for free on the internet on Lernu.net. The learning material is high quality, just great. I tried to read some of it, it’s really easy and you can learn it fast. I’m actually thinking about learning the language, 30 min a day or something – well I need to find the time first! People learning the language today could contribute in setting the bases of the language… think about Esperanto literature hehe ;)
Maybe someday, it’ll be known by 500 Millions people and English or French will become forgotten language just like Latin and Ancient Greek are today.

Jes, estas bona lingvo. Mi eklernis ĝin dum la lastan kristnaskon, kaj mi uzis ĝin multe. Kaj estas tre faĉile lerni!

Yes, it’s a great language. I started studying esperanto during the last christmas, and I’ve used quite an amount since that. And it’s really simple to learn!

Of course Lernu.net isn’t the only place to learn Esperanto, I’m currently taking the Free Esperanto Course and have found that to be good lerning material as well. Gxis!

Mi jxus trovis cxi tiun retpagxon. Jes, Esperanto estas bonega kaj ege utila lingvo miaopinie. Se vi volas paroli, vi devas nur sendi mesagxon al esbenpape@hotm@il.com :-) (La duan ‘@’ devas esti ‘a’ cxar mi ne volas ricevi SPAM)

I just found this website. Yes, Esperanto is a really great and very useful language in my opinion. If you want to talk, you only need to send me a message to esbenpape@hotm@il.com :-) (The second ‘@’ is supposed to be an ‘a’ because I don’t want to receive spam)
