ProjectW.org OOS
Before we even start, OOS stands for Out Of Service.
ProjectW.org is a huge forum where people share software, movies, music, anything you can think about. Well not any kind of software: illegal software aka Warez – nothing is perfect. The good thing about it is that it’s regularly updated and dead links are often removed. At first look, its chaos, but you can still find piece of software you won’t find anywhere else, you can even request applications, games and someone could share it.
The site is restructuring the databases, a process that takes a couple of hours usually in “normal” forums. The process has been going on for almost a week now on ProjectW.org, it just reached 75 %, and they must have something like 100,000 users and probably as much posts.
Note: downloading Warez is very bad; proceed with caution – Duh

ProjectW.org has been online for a couple of days after database restructuring was over (that was a week ago). It’s been down again ever since without any notice from the administrators of the forum.
In the mean time, you could try visiting one of the following similar ProjectW.org sites:

You were probably wondering why we are down again… Our server has been upgraded from 2GB to 4GB RAM, but after the upgrade it became instable and crashes almost instantaneously. It’s most likely because 4GB is the limit of 32-bit addressing, the kernel probably needs a recompile or the memory is faulty.
We’re also working on an IRC channel to inform you about any maintenance/downtime in the future.

UPDATE 11 May: Sorry for the late update, I had was very busy past week, so I wasn’t able to look into this. The server is fully operational, but it seems the onboard network card isn’t recognized by Linux. First I had to fix an IRQ conflict, because the NIC had a very strange IRQ. After that it appeared it wasn’t detected because of a driver error. I think there is solution, we are going to compile a custom kernel from source and patch it to support the onboard NIC. I’m confident this will work and we’ll keep you updated. We’ll try to fix it asap, I’m not sure how long a custom compile is going to take. We’ll be back as usual, and no data loss, hacking or whatsoever has occurred.

I know some guys who really struggled with it to get wwifi working but if it’s just a kernel problem … might not take so long…

UPDATE 13 May: Tech staff needs to copy a new kernel + kernel source + drivers to my server, after that I can start fixing the network card detection. Although the network connection is down I can still control my server with a KVM over IP switch, which transmits mouse, keyboard and VGA signals over an internet connection. I’m expecting to start working tomorrow, right now I’m just waiting 99% of my time…
UPDATE 15 May: I’ve managed to get the network driver working, but somehow the routing table is a mess and it can’t even connect to the gateway although the network carlink is working properly. The routing table is a mess so someone from tech support is going to format the box and reinstall the OS. This should take 2 days max.

i just posted for 1st time on projectw.org. there i downloaded a .rar file & it asked for a password. there was no mention of a password on the forum. so i asked for the password on the forum and later found i had been banned. could anybody explain why and how to rejoin?

I don’t know how it happened but I got banned from ProjectW. I am sorry for anything I did. Please let me login. On thursday I logged-in and I was called by my professor so I had to immidiately log-out while I was in the university lab. Thats what I did on my last activity on Thursday.

All i know is that ive been a member of PW for some time now! And recently my computer and my girlfriends have been infected with one hell of a headace issue for me! i finily fixed my computer now all i have to do is fix the 3 others in my house and the others in my girlfriends! I cant believe it! Now that ProjectW allows spam and popup ads i guess ill have to go else were for my stuff! or start my own place in which that old term comes in to place “Guess ill have to do it my self!” LOL
the file d1,d5.exe are both infecting your NDIS.SYS file of your computer in C:/windows/system32/Drivers
If you have the cd replace that fine in dos or safemode and your bluescreen should go away!

Yea Projectw.org is closed for good now which is a shame. It just kind of came out of nowhere. I was a little pissed when I logged on today to find the Admin has closed it for good because there was no warning and i wish the Admin would have posted an alternative site we can use and now were just going to have a bunch of people all over the place like chickens running with thier heads off. Does anybody know another site comparable to quality as projectw in which we share and download files?

Its a darn shame but it seems that Grizzly has given up trying to run ProjectW. It will be dearly missed and hope that someone takes over for him. ProjectW was one of the best boards on the net. Uh… Latest news is news to me… I know that they were recently down for upgrade to phpBB 3 from phpBB 2, because they’ve finally released RC1 for that version, but I had no idea they were going down for good… I noticed that their domain is now up on SedoParking and merely parked, as well as no clue as to what’s happened… But yeah, I’ve seen that since phpBB 3, they have gone through a lot of bugs etc, so I’m hoping they’re not down for good, and only sorting out some difficulty… That place was and still is really awesome ;.;

sad about the projectw story. but i know the real story behind them going down. they have too many errors on their database. and the owner is lazy to reup and correct that big database. we talked to their mods/admins on there irc server. and discussed about working for SimpleZone.net they agreed. and started working for SZ but after about 12 hrs they changed their minds they deleted all the stuffs on SZ. but still alot of PW members have joined SZ and its alive.. and we hope SZ makes the new born PW in the future

Let me put it in a better way, I actually spent 2-3 hrs daily on the site on a daily basis. Its what made me a computer geek what I am today, I think on my part I actually got projectW some 50 members.

I’ve been using the site for while and two weeks ago, I decided to donate $20.00 through paypal, and now is site dissapears.
I’m heart broken. I visited it, or tried, just now and it was completely gone. Googled it, and found out it’s closed. I am sad now, thats all I have to say.

Agreed.. The site is sorely missed….. It is often unfortunate how constant is change… Let’s make one fo the other sites that popular… Hassle though it may be.. Nothing good ever comes easy does it? I Must Admit to telling all those who I know and understood to need the assistance ProjectW provided, of its existance… They are likewise disappointed. The resource prevented Us from having to search all over the place for what was needed… making life… quite easy and enjoyable… I see the owner has no intention of changing his mind at this time.. Which is alright.. We will take Our business elsewhere so they can relax from years of service…
Please remember this… Managing such a complex site becomes a career.. I’ve worked with PC since it was invented in 1976.. and am likewise tired of constantly giving advice and working on alllllllllll those computers.. for most of my life. A part of me died this day, to find out PW is no more. It changed my life, thats for sure, what with all those warez, the music, and the e-books? Damn, curse u Grizzly…but thank you Grizzly. I guess, nothing lasts forever. So sorely missed.

What a shame that a great site like projectw went down. We will all miss GRIZZLY and his great site. Good thing some old members are starting a new projectw in memory of the old one. Go to projectw2.informe.com. By the way those bastards at waresws are just trying to steal all of pw members by claiming to be a new pw. Not true, infact they used to compete with projectw.
I started to be a member of ProjectW when the original warezbb.com went crazy (a lot of years ago). They became later “Warez-BB.org”, but by then, ProjectW was a huge and organized community. I deeply regret the dead of PW, but as before, I have now to find a forum with similar features. Right now, I think Warez-BB is the solution (I didn’t just switchted back, I was member in both forums since ever).
